September is National Chicken Month!

September is National Chicken Month, and America’s chicken companies are making it easier than ever to enjoy the great taste and convenience of chicken. They are even offering consumers the chance to win $500 just for ordering chicken in a restaurant!

“Americans can benefit from National Chicken Month when eating chicken both at home and in restaurants,” said Sue Quillin, chairman of the NCC Promotions Subcommittee. “The poultry industry works together to create a promotion that provides real cost savings and top value for the dollar.” The National Chicken Council and U.S. Poultry & Egg Association sponsor National Chicken Month every September to help extend the summer selling season.

September subscriber copies of Family Circle, Good Housekeeping and Ladies’ Home Journal magazines include an insert with chicken recipes and savings coupons totaling $1.35 on products from NCM sponsors Uncle Ben’s Rice and Kikkoman Teriyaki Sauce and an offer for a free recipe booklet and sample packets from Mrs. Dash Seasoning.

Shoppers will also find cents-off coupons for the sponsor products, plus Birds Eye Simply Grillin’ frozen vegetables, on packages of fresh chicken from participating companies. The chicken companies include Allen Family Foods, Claxton Poultry Farms, Fieldale Farms, Gold Kist, Gold n’ Plump Poultry, Hormel Always Tender, Mountaire Farms, Pennfield Farms, Perdue Farms, Sanderson Farms and Tyson Foods. Recipes using the sponsor brands are posted to the Web site http://www.eatchicken.com.

Restaurant patrons can take a chance on winning $500 by submitting a receipt for a chicken item from a restaurant or other foodservice outlet. Six lucky diners will be chosen in a random drawing. In addition, the manager at the restaurant where the chicken dish was ordered will also win $500. No purchase is necessary; the patron can simply name his or her chicken favorite item at the restaurant. The official rules are posted to the Web site http://www.eatchicken.com/contest.

“We know that people eat meals away from home now more than ever,” said Jerry Lane, president of Claxton Poultry Farms and chairman of the NCC Marketing Committee. “Our industry wants to encourage people to order more chicken when eating away from home, whether at a fast-food establishment, a company or school cafeteria or a favorite neighborhood restaurant.”
